Augustus Gilchrist poured in a season-high 22 points as visiting South Florida continued its best-ever start in the Big East with a 75-59 win over DePaul.
Gilchrist, who had a career-high 32 points last season at DePaul, made 7 of 8 from the field. Jawanza Poland added 19 points for the Bulls (12-8, 5-2 Big East), who have won five of six.
Hugh Robertson chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds for South Florida, which has won seven straight against DePaul.
Cleveland Melvin scored 17 points and freshman Jamee Crockett added a career-high 15 points for DePaul (10-9, 1-6), which got as close as two points in the second half before going cold from the field. The Blue Demons, outrebounded 38-24, have dropped five in a row.
DePaul’s second leading scorer, Brandon Young, missed all 13 shots from the field and had six points.
South Florida finished the first half on a 15-6 run – including a pair of 3-pointers by Poland – to take a 37-29 lead at halftime. Poland recorded 12 points in the opening 20 minutes. The Bulls have held their last 16 opponents to 30 points or less in the first half
