Kyle Kuric led four players in double figures with 21 points and No. 21 Louisville sent host Pittsburgh to an eight straight loss with a 73-62 victory on Saturday.
Freshman Chane Behanan scored a season-high 19 points and Gorgui Dieng added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Cardinals (15-5, 3-4 Big East), who shot 73.7 percent (14 of 19) in the second half.
Kuric missed the last two games with a high ankle sprain and wasn’t expected to play as recently as Friday. The senior didn’t start, but came off the bench and provided a huge spark for a team that had lost five of seven. He was 7 of 12 from the field and 5 of 9 from beyond the arc.
Ashton Gibbs and Lamar Patterson each scored 14 points for Pittsburgh (11-9, 0-7). The Panthers' nightmare season keeps getting worse. They have lost four straight at home – and eight straight overall for the first time since the end of the 1993-94 season.
Even the return of point guard Travon Woodall, who missed 11 of the last 12 games with an abdominal injury, couldn’t help Pittsburgh snap out of its funk. The model of consistency in the Big East, the Panthers are the only team winless in conference play.
Jamie Dixon's team had no answers for Kuric, who scored 13 points in the first half to help the Cardinals to a 31-28 halftime lead. Louisville then opened the second half by hitting 10 of its first 12 shots and led 56-43 with just under eight minutes left after Russ Smith’s 3-pointer capped a 14-4 run. Pittsburgh never got closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
