Freshman Jordan Tolbert scored 22 points, and Texas Tech blew past Grambling State 87-59 on Sunday night at United Spirit Arena.
Tolbert, who was coming off a career-high 27-point performance against TCU, scored 18 of his points in the second half as the Red Raiders (5-4) cruised.
Luke Adams added 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range for the Red Raiders, who moved to 4-0 at home this season.
Xavier Rogers had 19 points to lead Grambling State (0-7), which entered the game as the nation’s lowest-scoring team at 40.2 points per game. This was the first time Grambling State scored more than 45 points.
Texas Tech opened the game on a 17-0 run and took a 27-2 lead on Javarez Willis’ steal and layup nine minutes in.
Grambling State closed the first half on a 26-20 run to cut the deficit to 47-28 at the break.
In the second half, Willis stripped the ball from Grambling State’s Roman Higgins and took it the length of the court for a layup that stretched Texas Tech’s lead to 73-42.
