CLEVELAND - Rick Jackson scored a game-high 23 points as Syracuse overwhelmed Indiana State 77-60 in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Friday.
Third-seeded Syracuse (27-7) advances to the Round of 32 on Sunday when it will meet fellow Big East Conference rival Marquette. The Golden Eagles defeated the Orange 76-70 in Milwaukee in late January.
Jackson scored 12 points in the first half as Syracuse raced to a 31-14 lead. Indiana State (20-14), making its first NCAA appearance since 2001 when it upset Oklahoma in the first round, closed the opening 20 minutes on a 16-7 run and trailed 38-30 at halftime.
C.J. Fair came off the bench to add 14 points and seven rebounds, while Kris Joseph had 12 points and 10 boards as Syracuse shot 52 percent from the field and a surprising 77 percent from the free throw line. The Orange were last in the Big East in free throw percentage (66 percent).
Jake Kelly was the lone Indiana State player in double figures with 12 points as the No. 14 seed Sycamores bench outscored the starters 32-28.
