CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Michigan opened the second half on a 21-4 run and embarrassed Tennessee 75-45 in a West Region game Friday.

The Wolverines, who advanced to the Round of 32 for the second time in three years, put five players in double figures and their 1-3-1 zone rendered the ninth-seeded Volunteers helpless. Zack Novak led Michigan with 14 points, hitting 4 of 6 from beyond the arc, and 10 rebounds.

Eighth-seeded Michigan (21-13) will face Duke on Sunday.

The Wolverines got 11 points apiece from freshman Tim Hardaway Jr., Matt Vogrich and Stu Douglass. Four of Michigan’s top eight players are freshmen, making the Wolverines the youngest team in the Big Ten. They've rebounded nicely from a 1-6 start in conference play.

Tennessee (19-15) committed 18 turnovers and shot 35 percent. Freshman Tobias Harris was the only bright spot with 19 points.

The game might have been Bruce Pearl’s last as Tennessee coach. Pearl has led the Volunteers to the NCAA tournament in each of his six seasons in Knoxville, including a trip to the regional finals last year, but he lied to NCAA investigators and was suspended for the first half of the SEC schedule this season.

Athletic director Mike Hamilton said this week he'd decide Pearl’s future once the season ended.
