The Auburn Tigers managed to emerge with a much needed 76-72 win against University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the final seconds of the Sunday afternoon matchup.
Auburn trailed for most of the game and was tied with Pine Bluff 72-72 with ten seconds remaining in the game. But the Tigers (3-4) took the 74-72 lead off the Allen Payne layup. Rob Chubb then put up two free throws seconds later to seal the deal for Auburn.
Despite Auburn's recent scoring troubles, Payne had solid offensive day making several key shots late in the game. He totaled 16 points, and went 4 for 4 from the line. Chubb also had an impressive afternoon going 6 for 8 at the line in route to scoring a total of 14 points.
Pine Bluff (0-7) nearly pulled off the upset with Allen Smith and Terrell Kennedy both posting 19 points but the Golden Tigers were hampered by fouls and turnovers in the final minutes of the game.
Pine Bluff look for their first win when they take on UTEP next Sunday in El Paso while the Tigers will take on Rutgers as part of the DirectTV SEC-Big East Invitation next Saturday in Pittsburgh.
