Tyler Newbold scored 14 points and Tai Wesley added 11 as No. 21 Utah State routed host Louisiana Tech 72-30 on Saturday.
Brian Green added 10 points as Utah State (28-3, 15-1 Western Athletic Conference) jumped ahead early and was never threatened.
The Aggies are the top seed in the WAC tournament, and next play in the semifinals Friday.
C.J. Scott scored 10 points to pace the Bulldogs (12-20, 2-14), whose season is over as the Bulldogs failed to qualify for one of the eight spots in the WAC tournament.
Louisiana Tech was 10 for 56 from the field (17.9 percent), and missed all 14 of its 3-point shots.
Utah State scored the first 11 points and led 25-2 after Green’s 3-pointer with 11:38 to go in the half. Louisiana Tech’s only field goal during the first 14 minutes was a layup by Olu Ashaolu with 15:20 left.
The Aggies led by 25 before Scott scored on a three-point play to cut the Utah State lead to 28-6 with 5:56 left in the half.
Louisiana Tech shot 15.4 percent in the first half.
