No. 8 Brigham Young showed Saturday there is more to its offense than national-scoring leader Jimmer Fredette, downing TCU with a balanced effort, 79-56, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Fredette finished with 23 points but scored just one during a decisive 18-4 first-half run for BYU (25-2, 11-1 MWC), which kept pace with Mountain West Conference-leader San Diego State. The Aztecs beat Air Force Saturday. The Cougars are one-half game behind the Aztecs and travel to San Diego State next Saturday.
Stephen Rogers added 15 points off the bench for the Cougars. Jackson Emery and Brandon Davies each scored 11, and Noah Hartsock added 10.
J.R. Cadot scored 17 points to lead TCU (10-18, 1-12).
The Cougars jumped all over the Horned Frogs in the final seven minutes of the first half. The decisive run turned a 27-24 Cougars lead into a 45-28 halftime advantage. Charles Abouo started the spurt with a 3-pointer. Rogers and Logan Magnusson also hit 3-pointers during the run,
BYU plays host to Colorado State on Wednesday. TCU plays Tuesday at Utah.
