Trevor Mbakwe scored 24 points as No. 25 Minnesota snapped a four-game losing streak Sunday evening with a 62-45 victory at Iowa.
The Golden Gophers (17-8, 6-7 Big Ten) trailed 14-6 before closing the first half with a 24-6 run to take a lead they would not relinquish. Iowa closed the gap to 32-23 just after the intermission before Minnesota scored the next six points to move the margin back into double digits for good.
Iowa struggled mightily on offense, shooting just 34 percent overall (16 of 47) and hitting just 6 of 28 shots from 3-point range. The Hawkeyes were also outrebounded 38-25 and committed 17 turnovers.
Mbakwe hit 7 of 11 field goals and 10 of 11 free throws for Minnesota, which also got 13 points from Rodney Williams. Bryce Cartwright led the way for Iowa (10-15, 3-10) with 11 points and seven assists.
