JaMychal Green finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds as Alabama held off a late charge and edged No. 12 Kentucky, 68-66, on Tuesday.
Tony Mitchell added 15 points for the Crimson Tide (11-7, 3-1 SEC), who overcame 19 turnovers to bounce back from their first conference loss.
Alabama used a 12-2 run through the middle of the first half to take control, going into the break with a 37-30 edge as the Wildcats struggled to find a rhythm offensively.
The Crimson Tide stretched it out in the second half, pushing the lead to as much as 52-32 after opening the period with a 15-2 burst. Mitchell scored the final seven points of the spurt, blocking a shot and grabbing three rebounds in those first five minutes as well.
But Kentucky chipped away, holding Alabama scoreless for nearly five minutes in cutting the lead to single digits. Three times the Wildcats crept within one point in the final 3:28 and each time the Crimson Tide held them off, getting a steal with six seconds left to seal it.
Terrence Jones collected 17 points and nine rebounds for Kentucky (14-4, 2-2).
