A torrid outside shooting display helped Samford go into Auburn and pull out a 79-68 upset victory Friday night. The game was part of the Global Sports Hoops Showcase.
Josh Davis hit 8 of 10 three-pointers and scored a game-high 30 points off the bench for the Bulldogs (2-1), who made 18 of 33 shots from long range.
The contest was tied at 32-32 before Davis closed the half with two three-pointers in the final 46 seconds of the half to put the Bulldogs, who never trailed, ahead by six. Auburn was within two, 54-52, with 9:32 left before Josh Bedwell hit three from beyond the arc as part of a 13-0 run that put Samford up by 15 at the 6:27 mark. The Tigers scored eight unanswered points to make it a 67-60 game with four minutes to go, but got no closer.
Bedwell finished with 21 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting for Samford. Andre Malone led Auburn (0-2) with 28 points.
