Josh Lowe stroked a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th inning as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the host Miami Marlins 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Randy Arozarena added a two-run single in the 10th to saddle Marlins reliever David Robertson (4-6) with the loss. Following his base hit, Arozarena stole second and third, giving him 20 steals on the year. He has now recorded at least 20 homers and 20 stolen bases in three consecutive seasons.
Four Rays pitchers combined on the four-hit shutout, with Shawn Armstrong (1-0) throwing 1 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win and Pete Fairbanks notching his 18th save.
Rays center fielder Jose Siri made a couple of stellar defensive plays, including a leaping grab in the seventh. He raced back into the left-center-field gap and caught Josh Bell's 387-foot fly ball, crashing into the wall after making the catch.
The Marlins were without star outfielder Jorge Soler, who is dealing with right hip tightness. Soler leads Miami in homers (35) and RBIs (71).
Neither starting pitcher surrendered a run.
Miami left-hander Jesus Luzardo pitched six innings, allowing just one hit and two walks. He struck out eight. Rays right-hander Zach Eflin went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits. He did not issue a walk while fanning four.
Tampa Bay threatened in the fourth when Yandy Diaz and Arozarena walked to open the frame. But Luzardo induced a fielder's choice before getting Isaac Paredes to fly out and Brandon Lowe to strike out to escape the jam.
Miami missed a chance to score in the fifth after Jesus Sanchez ripped a one-out double. Sanchez advanced to third on Yuli Gurriel's groundout, but Rays catcher Christian Bethancourt picked off Sanchez to end the frame.
In the seventh, Marlins reliever A.J. Puk struck out Paredes before walking the next three batters.
Andrew Nardi took over for Puk and struck out Bethancourt before getting Vidal Brujan to fly out to end the rally. Nardi left the game in the eighth after he took Harold Ramirez's 99-mph line drive off his pitching hand.
