Kyle Schwarber continued his torrid stretch by belting three home runs to lift the Washington Nationals to a 5-2 victory over the visiting New York Mets on Sunday afternoon.
Schwarber, who went deep twice in Washington's 6-2 win on Saturday night, has nine homers in his past 10 games and 18 on the season.
Juan Soto and Starlin Castro had two hits apiece for the Nationals, who won three of four from New York to finish 8-3 on an 11-game homestand.
Washington starter Patrick Corbin (5-5) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven in six-plus innings. Brad Hand pitched the ninth for his 15th save.
Kevin Pillar and Pete Alonso launched solo homers for the Mets, who were held to four hits. They have scored nine runs while losing four of their last five games.
Taijuan Walker (6-3) allowed four runs on 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings for New York.
Schwarber led off the bottom of the first with a homer to left-center field off a 2-0 fastball from Walker. It was Schwarber's fourth homer leading off the bottom of the first inning on the homestand.
Pillar evened the score in the top of second with a home run to right-center field.
The Nationals claimed a 2-1 lead in the third when Trea Turner singled and stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Josh Bell single.
Schwarber struck again to lead off the fifth inning. He lined a shot over the wall in right field on a 3-2 pitch to give Washington a 3-1 lead.
Alonso halved the deficit after lofting a fly ball to left to lead off the seventh for his 11th homer of the season.
Gerardo Parra, recalled from Triple-A Rochester earlier in the day, doubled in his first at-bat in the majors since 2019. Schwarber then capped his afternoon with a fly to left-center field off Jeurys Familia that bounced off the top of the fence and into the Mets bullpen.
It was the first three-homer game by a National since Anthony Rendon accomplished the feat against the Mets on April 30, 2017.
