Madison Bumgarner picked up the 116th victory of his San Francisco Giants' career on Sunday at Petco Park in San Diego.
The question now is will it be his last.
With speculation still floating that the Giants could move the 29-year-old Bumgarner before Wednesday's trade deadline, Bumgarner improved to 6-7 on the season as the still-surging Giants defeated the Padres 7-6 in the rubber match of the three-game series.
Bumgarner allowed four runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. He threw 86 pitches with 61 going for strikes as the Giants won for the 13th time in 17 games.
Will Smith picked up his 26th save despite giving up a two-run homer to Wil Myers with two out in the ninth.
But Bumgarner wasn't the star of this game for the Giants.
Mike Yastrzemski was 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs as the Giants amassed 16 hits. Donovan Solano also had two RBI singles, including the go-ahead hit in the sixth. And former Padre Alex Dickerson had the game-tying RBI single as a pinch-hitter in the fourth and scored in the ninth.
The Padres offense was Hunter Renfroe. The left fielder's sacrifice fly gave the Padres a 1-0 lead in the first, then hit a three-run homer in the third to give the Padres a short-lived 4-2 lead. The Giants tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Solano and Dickerson.
The Giants go-ahead tally in the sixth came against right-handed reliever Luis Perdomo (1-3). Yastrzemski opened the inning with a single, moved to second on Bumgarner's sacrifice bunt and scored on Solano's single to short right as Padres right fielder Franmil Reyes lobbed his throw back into the infield.
Rookie Adrian Morejon made his second start as an "opener" for the Padres. The 20-year-old left-hander gave up two runs on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Perdomo gave up three runs on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts in four innings.
Dickerson and Buster Posey opened the ninth with back-to-back doubles off Robbie Erlin with Posey scoring on Brandon Crawford's two-out single. Yastrzemski then lined out to the warning track in right in a bid for a fifth hit. The Giants needed the runs as a pad against Myers' first homer since July 2.
Posey had three hits for the Giants. Solano, Dickerson and Crawford had two apiece. Like Yastrzemski, Solano reached base four times.
