Mike Trout homered and drove in three runs as the visiting Los Angeles Angels defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-3 Friday night.
Trout had been slumping but went 1-for-2 in a win against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday and finished 2-for-4 on Friday. His average had slipped to .280 earlier this week, but it's now moved up to .292.
Andrelton Simmons and Kole Calhoun each drove in two runs, combining with Trout to bring home seven of the eight Los Angeles runs.
Trevor Cahill (2-3) earned the win for the Angels with six solid innings. He did not return after rain stopped play for 1 hour, 49 minutes following the sixth inning. He gave up two runs on four hits, and he struck out five without a walk.
Dan Straily (1-3) started for Baltimore and struggled once more. He gave up six runs on five hits in just 4 1/3 innings.
The Orioles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Trey Mancini homered to center.
That advantage didn't last long as the Angels tied it in the second inning when Calhoun tripled to left-center to drive in Simmons, who singled to start the inning.
The Angels then took the lead in the third when Trout hit a two-run homer that just sailed over the glove of Baltimore center fielder Stevie Wilkerson, trying to make a leaping grab at the fence in left-center.
This homer put the Angels in front, 3-1, and Los Angeles never trailed again.
Wilkerson helped the Orioles cut it to 3-2 in the fourth when he started a two-out rally. He doubled and then scored on a Chris Davis single.
Trout then added an RBI double to center in the fifth that ended Straily's night and gave the Angels a 4-2 lead. Evan Phillips then came on, and with two outs, Simmons lined a two-run single to right.
Brian Goodwin followed that with an RBI double that made it 7-2. Calhoun then chipped in with an RBI single for the fifth run of the inning.
Davis added a solo homer in the seventh, his fourth long ball of the year. The first baseman slowly is heating up at the plate. He didn't get a hit until his 11th game, but Davis now has a .193 average -- 25 points higher than his 2018 average.
