Pinch-hitter Hunter Renfroe hit a walk-off grand slam homer off Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen with two out in the bottom of the ninth Sunday afternoon to give the host San Diego Padres an 8-5 victory to avoid being swept in a three-game series at Petco Park.

Chris Taylor had put the Dodgers ahead 5-4 with a two-run homer in the top of the eighth off Padres reliever Robbie Erlin.

Dodgers pitchers had held the Padres to three hits and retired 14 straight Padres -- including seven straight by strikeouts at one point -- when Eric Hosmer opened the bottom of the ninth with a single to left off Jansen, who had picked up saves in each of the first two games of the series.

Manuel Margot and Wil Myers followed with back-to-back bunt singles to the left side to load the bases with no one out. But Jansen struck out Greg Garcia and retired Francisco Mejia on an infield popout. Jansen then jumped ahead with a strike to Renfroe, who was in a 1-for-16 slump over his previous five games before hitting his fifth career grand slam -- and seventh homer of the season -- on a cut fastball.

It was the first walk-off win of the season for the Padres, who almost saw the Dodgers rally from an early deficit in what would have been their third straight win. It also marked San Diego's first pinch-hit walk-off grand slam in franchise history.

The Padres made the most of their three hits against Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda Sunday. The three hits included a 458-foot, first-inning homer by Franmil Reyes, a second-inning RBI triple by Mejia and a two-run double by Garcia in the fourth. Mejia also hit a sacrifice fly to give the Padres a 4-0 lead in the fourth.

But Max Muncy pulled the Dodgers to within one run with a three-run homer off starter Nick Margevicius in the fifth -- the left-handed-swinging infielder's second three-run homer in as many games. And Taylor put the Dodgers ahead with his two-run homer off left-handed Erlin.

Margevicius retired the first two hitters he faced in the fifth before Corey Seager drew a walk and David Freese singled in front of Muncy's seventh homer. Muncy, who also had the game-winning single in the series opener, drew a leadoff walk from Erlin ahead of Taylor's third homer of the season in the eighth.

Adam Warren (2-0) got the win with a scoreless ninth and Jansen (2-1), tagged for four runs and four hits in 2/3 innings, took the loss.

Both starting pitchers threw well on Sunday, with Maeda giving up just the three hits in six innings, despite allowing four runs. He struck out six and walked three. Margevicius pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up three runs and seven hits, while walking three with no strikeouts.
