Madison Bumgarner extended his consecutive-innings scoreless streak at home to 20 Saturday night and helped his own cause with a double, delivering the San Francisco Giants a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies in San Francisco.
The Giants' second consecutive shutout win in the three-game series knocked the Rockies (81-67) out of first place in the National League West. The Los Angeles Dodgers (82-67), winners earlier in the day at St. Louis, moved a half-game up on Colorado.
The Dodgers and Rockies go head-to-head for three games starting Monday night in Los Angeles.
Bumgarner (6-6), who had shut out Arizona and Houston for seven innings apiece in his previous two home games, limited the Rockies to five hits in his six-inning effort. He walked one and struck out two.
The win improved the left-hander's career record to 13-8 against the Rockies. The only team he has beaten more often has been the Dodgers (15-10).
After Bumgarner left a 3-0 game, Tony Watson struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh inning, Mark Melancon pitched around a Nolan Arenado double in the eighth and closer Will Smith worked a one-hit ninth for his 12th save.
The Giants took the lead for good in the second inning after a single by Brandon Crawford and double by Nick Hundley.
Austin Slater, who drove in the only two runs of Friday's 2-0 victory, put the Giants in front with an infield out that plated Crawford, before Hunter Pence singled in Hundley to make it 2-0.
Bumgarner's double led off the third inning. He eventually scampered home on a wild pitch by Rockies starter German Marquez (12-10).
Marquez pitched six innings, allowing three runs and seven hits. He walked one and struck out four.
Evan Longoria had two hits for the Giants, who had lost 11 in a row before their two straight wins over the Rockies.
Arenado and DJ LeMahieu had doubles for the Rockies, who retained an 11-7 advantage over the Giants in the season series.
The shutout loss was the Rockies' ninth of the season, their third against the Giants.
San Francisco out-hit Colorado 8-7.
