Roberto Osuna earned his first save since being acquired in a trade before the July 31 deadline as the Houston Astros held off the host Seattle Mariners 10-7 Wednesday afternoon.

Osuna pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 10th save of the season, the first nine coming with Toronto. The right-hander returned from a suspension on Aug. 5 and was moved to the closer role on Tuesday.

Martin Maldonado and Tyler White each went 3-for-5 with a home run for the Astros, who took two of three games in the series and are now up one game on the Oakland Athletics in the American League West. The A's lost to the Texas Rangers earlier Wednesday.

Right-hander Charlie Morton (13-3) cruised into the sixth before the Mariners rallied. Morton allowed six runs on seven hits in five-plus innings, with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Trailing 9-1, the Mariners scored once in the fifth, on a two-out double by Robinson Cano, and five times in the sixth to get back in it.

Nelson Cruz, who homered earlier, led off the sixth with a double. After a single by Denard Span, Ryon Healy had an RBI single. Ben Gamel was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and end Morton's afternoon.

Mike Zunino and Dee Gordon hit sacrifice flies before Mitch Haniger hammered his 20th home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field, to pull Seattle within 9-7.

White led off the ninth with his eighth homer to cap the scoring.

Mariners left-hander Marco Gonzales (12-9) allowed eight runs on 11 hits in three-plus innings, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Gonzales, who was skipped the last time through the rotation to give him some extra rest, was chased after allowing six consecutive hits to open the fourth inning. He dropped to 0-4 in four starts this month, with a 10.35 ERA.

With the Astros leading 3-0, Yuli Gurriel and Josh Reddick opened the fourth with line-drive singles. Maldonado followed with an RBI double to right. Tony Kemp, Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve hit run-scoring singles to make it 7-0 and end Gonzales' afternoon.

The Mariners got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning as Cruz hit his 31st homer, a solo shot into the upper deck in left field.

Maldonado got that run back in the fifth with his eighth homer, a towering fly ball that just cleared the fence in the left field corner to make it 9-1.
