The Padres scored an unearned run in the first thanks to the legs of leadoff man Travis Jankowski, then struck for four runs in the second against the one-time Mets ace. San Diego added three more runs in the seventh with five straight singles against Cincinnati's bullpen.
Rookie left-hander Eric Lauer, who took a 7.67 ERA into his eighth major league start, held the Reds to one run -- a home run by catcher Curt Casali in his first at-bat with Cincinnati -- on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts to claim his second win against three losses.
Harvey fell to 1-4, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings.
Jankowski ran the Padres to a 1-0 lead in the first. He bunted and reached first on Casali's throwing error, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Jose Pirela's sacrifice fly.
The Reds tied the score in the second on Casali's 370-foot drive to left field on a full-count offering from Lauer.
But four straight Padres reached base against Harvey to open the second. Franmil Reyes and Freddy Galvis singled, and A.J. Ellis drew a walk to load the bases. Manuel Margot followed with a two-run double, and Ellis scored on Lauer's sacrifice fly to right for his first major league RBI. Jankowski then singled home Margot.
Jankowski singled to open the seventh, stole second and scored on Eric Hosmer's single. Pirela and Villanueva followed with singles to load the bases, with Hosmer and Pirela scoring on Matt Szczur's single.
Cincinnati's Scott Schebler greeted Padres reliever Phil Hughes with a 398-foot homer to right to open the ninth, Schebler's seventh home run of the season.
In the eighth, Padres lefty reliever Jose Castillo made his major league debut and struck out all three hitters he faced -- Joey Votto, Eugenio Suarez and Adam Duvall. Castillo was the ninth Padre, and the seventh pitcher, to make his big league debut this season.
