Patriots 13, Jets 10: Tom Brady threw an early touchdown pass to Aaron Dobson and host New England came up with three fourth-quarter interceptions to offset a dismal offensive performance in its home opener.
Brady completed only 19-of-39 passes - 13 of them to Julian Edelman - for 185 yards and the Patriots (2-0) were blanked in the second half, finishing with 232 total yards to outlast New York (1-1). Aqib Talib intercepted a pair of passes and Alfonzo Dennard picked off one in the final 11 1/2 minutes as the Jets were driving for a tying or go-ahead score.
Rookie quarterback Geno Smith finished 15-of-35 for 214 yards with zero touchdowns and three interceptions for the Jets, who limited New England to 4-of-18 on third-down conversions. Bilal Powell scored New York's only touchdown late in the third and Stephen Hill had four catches for 86 yards.
The Patriots struck quickly on their opening possession of the game with Brady finding a wide-open Dobson - the first career TD and catch for the rookie - in the right flat for a 39-yard scoring play. Devin McCourty's 44-yard fumble return set up Stephen Gostkowski's first field goal, a 21-yarder with 9:17 to go in the opening quarter for a 10-0 lead.
Nick Folk booted a 37-yard field goal with 4:01 left in the first quarter and Gostkowski countered with a 30-yard field goal with 5:05 left in the second quarter, but he missed a 43-yarder on the final play of the half. The Jets finally got in the end zone with 5:05 left the third quarter, driving 58 yards in nine plays and getting a 3-yard burst up the middle from Powell to make it 13-10.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brady's scoring strike to Dobson extended his streak of at least one TD pass to 50 consecutive games, four shy of New Orleans QB Drew Brees' NFL record. ... Jets RBs Chris Ivory and Powell combined for 25 carries and 100 yards as New York held the ball for 34 minutes. ... Both teams had apparent touchdown passes reversed upon video review in the opening half. Jets WR Clyde Gates was ruled to have lost control of the pass while Patriots rookie Kenbrell Thompkins' diving catch was overturned because the ground helped him maintain control.
