Predators 3, Oilers 2: Rookie Filip Forsberg continued his red-hot play with a goal and an assist as host Nashville held on to beat Edmonton.
Forsberg extended his point streak to six games while Mike Ribeiro also recorded a tally and an assist for the Predators, who have won three in a row for the first time this season. Matt Cullen also scored while Pekka Rinne made 21 saves.
Benoit Pouliot and Nail Yakupov tallied for the Oilers, who have lost five of seven. Ben Scrivens stopped all 18 shots he faced in relief of Viktor Fasth, who was chased after allowing three goals on 17 shots in the opening period.
The Predators burst out of the gate, going ahead on Ribeiro's goal 2:51 into the game and doubling the advantage 6 1/2 minutes later as Cullen lunged for the puck after defenseman Seth Jones' attempted shot caromed off the end boards and swatted it past a sprawling Fasth. Forsberg stretched the lead to 3-0 - and effectively ended Fasth's night - with a shot from along the end line that glanced off the netminder and in.
Pouliot got Edmonton on the board 31 seconds into the second period, whipping a rising shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that fooled Rinne. Yakupov made it a one-goal game at 14:42 after receiving a nifty pass from David Perron, but Rinne turned aside all nine shots he faced in the third to preserve his 10th win of the season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Forsberg has collected six goals and four assists during his streak and leads all first-year players in scoring with 17 points in 15 games. ... Edmonton fell to 0-8-1 against the Western Conference this season. ... The Predators have allowed two goals or fewer in 10 of their 11 victories.
