Blackhawks 5, Oilers 3: Marian Hossa scored to snap a tie on his 35th birthday and added an assist as host Chicago improved to 9-0-3 on the second night of back-to-back games this season.
Captain Jonathan Toews recorded his second goal in three games while Ben Smith, Andrew Shaw and defenseman Brent Seabrook also scored as the Blackhawks outshot Edmonton 41-21 to improve to 2-1-3 in their last six games. Goaltender Antti Raanta (18 saves) hasn't lost in regulation in his last nine starts (7-0-2) while Chicago improved to 3-0-0 against the Oilers this season.
Ales Hemsky scored for the first time in 17 games and Taylor Hall tallied for the third time in four contests for the Oilers, who fell to 1-7-1 in their last nine road games. Chicago peppered Devan Dubnyk (36 saves) with 19 shots in the second period and scored three goals to take a 4-2 lead.
Edmonton tied the game in bizarre fashion at 11:29 of the second period on a goal credited to Boyd Gordon when the Blackhawks' Patrick Kane passed the puck to an open point during a delayed penalty, and it bounced off the boards before trickling into the Chicago net. Twenty-nine seconds later, Hossa blasted a shot past Dubnyk's glove during the 5-on-3 power play.
Toews made it a two-goal game when he accepted a pass from Patrick Sharp on a 2-on-1 and slipped a shot between Dubnyk's pads with 2:28 left in the second period. Hall made it 4-3 with a tap-in of defenseman Justin Schultz's feed at 5:17 of the third before Seabrook's wrist shot from the point found its way through traffic with 5:41 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Blackhawks, who have scored five goals in each meeting with the Oilers this season, are 19-1-4 on the second night of back-to-back games since the start of 2012-13. ... Kane had two assists, but hasn't put the puck in an opponent's net in the last seven contests after totaling eight goals and 17 assists during a 14-game point streak. ... Dubnyk was assessed two minor penalties - the first coming right before Kane scored into his own net and setting up Hossa's tally.
