Penguins 6, Maple Leafs 5 (SO): Evgeni Malkin scored twice to extend his point streak to six games before netting the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout as host Pittsburgh held Toronto without a shot in both the third period and overtime.

After Pittsburgh registered 19 shots over the final 25 minutes, captain Sidney Crosby drew first blood in the second round of the shootout by avoiding an attempted poke check by Jonathan Bernier (43 saves) and wristing the puck into the net. Jeff Zatkoff denied David Clarkson with his right pad to set the stage for Malkin, who used a series of moves before wristing the puck inside the left post.

James Neal recorded his fifth goal in three contests while Brandon Sutter and Chris Conner also tallied as the Penguins overcame a three-goal deficit to improve to 4-1-1 in their last six games. Zatkoff finished with 11 saves in relief of an ineffective Marc-Andre Fleury (eight saves).

James van Riemsdyk collected two goals and an assist while Phil Kessel netted his team-leading 13th tally for Toronto. Tyler Bozak and Nazem Kadri also scored for the Maple Leafs, who fell for the third time in four games.

After Bozak's tap-in with five seconds left in the second period gave Toronto a 5-3 lead, Neal trimmed the deficit with a one-timer during a two-man advantage 3:46 into the third. Malkin forged a tie nearly four minutes later, exiting the penalty box following a high-sticking penalty before pushing Bernier with his stick and tucking the puck into the net for his second goal of the night.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Malkin notched his first two-goal game since March 22, 2012 versus Nashville. The former Hart Trophy winner has recorded three goals and nine assists during his point streak. ... Van Riemsdyk, who scored a power-play goal in the first period, gave Toronto a 3-1 lead just 13 seconds into the second after Fleury misplayed the puck behind his net. Fleury exited in favor of Zatkoff, who promptly saw a one-timer from Kessel find the back of the net just 29 seconds later. ... Pittsburgh blanked its foe in a period for the first time since Feb. 21, 2001 versus Florida.
