Scottie Lindsey scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds, shooting 7 of 13 from 3-point range, as Northwestern defeated DePaul 62-60 Saturday at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.

DePaul's Eli Cain had an open driving lane to the basket and a chance to tie the game with four seconds remaining, but missed strong off the glass

Vic Law finished with nine points, and Dererk Pardon added eight points and six rebounds in the crosstown rivalry's inaugural installment.

Max Strus led all scorers with 33 points, shooting 11 of 19 from the field, including 6 of 12 from 3-point range, but got little help from the rest of DePaul's starting lineup, which combined to shoot 8 of 29.

Northwestern (8-4, 1-1 Big Ten) trailed by as many as nine points in a physical, back-and-forth first half that included five lead changes and as many made field goals as turnovers (24). Both teams were in the bonus with 4:12 remaining in the first half.

The Wildcats shot 7 of 10 to start the game, but struggled when DePaul switched to a 2-3 zone, making only 2 of 12 after the hot start.

DePaul (6-5) shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, and led 33-28 by halftime, but abysmal free-throw shooting put Northwestern in position to make a comeback.

The Blue Demons made only 7 of 20 attempts from the foul line, and the Wildcats mounted a 15-4 run late in the second half.

Isaiah Brown's 3-pointer with 12:04 remaining gave Northwestern its first lead in over 20 minutes, and Lindsey's 3-pointer with 7:41 left gave the Wildcats a four-point lead, their largest of the game to that point. Brown finished with seven points on 3-for-4 shooting in 11 minutes off the bench.

Brandon Cyrus added seven points, six rebounds and five assists for DePaul, but shot just 3 of 10 from the field. The Blue Demons cut Northwestern's lead to two in the final minute, despite a 3-pointer from Lindsey with 55 seconds remaining that gave the Wildcats a five-point lead and appeared to be the dagger.

Cain then missed his shot in the closing seconds that would have tied it. Cain finished with just two points on 1-for-10 shooting.
