No. 25 SMU 73, Connecticut 55: Yanick Moreira collected 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Mustangs tightened their hold on the American Athletic Conference by knocking off the visiting Huskies.

Markus Kennedy added 13 points and eight boards off the bench while Sterling Brown scored 13 for SMU (21-5, 12-2 AAC), which moved a game ahead of Tulsa for first place in the AAC. Nic Moore contributed 10 points and six assists for the Mustangs.

Ryan Boatright scored 19 points for UConn (14-10, 7-5), which had a three-game winning streak come to an end. Daniel Hamilton added 13 points on 3-of-11 shooting as the Huskies shot 34 percent from the field.

Boatright’s 3-pointer gave UConn a 10-3 lead less than four minutes into the game before Ryan Manuel’s jumper capped a 12-0 run that put SMU in front. Moore’s 3-pointer stretched it to 31-19 and the Mustangs cruised into the break with a 41-26 cushion.

Kentan Facey’s basket drew the Huskies within 45-35 with 16 1/2 minutes remaining but UConn went the next six minutes without scoring as SMU pushed the advantage back to 19 points. Moore’s transition 3-pointer with just under six minutes to play pushed it to 67-39 as the Mustangs put it away.
