Michael Kidd-Gilchrist collected 13 points and nine rebounds and Darius Miller came off the bench for 13 points and five assists as No. 2 Kentucky fought off Old Dominion, 62-52, in the Hall Of Fame Tip-Off Tournament of Champions in Uncasville, Conn., on Sunday.
Anthony Davis added 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for the Wildcats (4-0), who overcame 20 turnovers.
The Wildcats had trouble against the Monarchs zone defense in the first half, falling behind, 25-20. Freshman point guard Marquis Teague was affected, committing five turnovers before the break. But Miller came off the bench to stabilize the offense and the Wildcats used a 12-2 burst to take a 32-27 lead into the break.
Old Dominion kept it close but never managed to regain the lead in the second half, drawing within 50-49 when Trian Iliadis knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers with 7:11 remaining.
Kentucky took over from there, getting a jumper from Kidd-Gilchrist and a transition layup from Teague to start another run.
Chris Cooper collected 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench to lead the Monarchs (3-2).
