Jeronne Maymon had 15 points and 19 rebounds and host Tennessee rode its suffocating defense to a 64-49 victory over Auburn on Saturday for the 1,500th win in program history.
The Volunteers (10-11, 2-4 SEC) did not allow a field goal for the final 9:45 of the first half, sparking an 18-3 run that gave Tennessee a 30-16 halftime lead.
Auburn (12-9, 2-5) shot a dreadful 6 for 25 from the field in the first half and finished at 30.4 percent.
Tennessee struggled itself on offense, shooting 34.5 percent, but five Volunteers scored in double figures. Trae Golden scored 13 points, Skylar McBee added 12, and Jordan McRae and Jarnell Stokes had 11 apiece.
Kenny Gabriel scored 13 points and Varez Ward added 12 for the Tigers, who have lost three of their past four.
