No. 10 Marquette used an air-tight defensive effort to pick up a 64-50 home win over crosstown rival Milwaukee.
The Golden Eagles (11-1) led by four, 25-21, late in the first half before holding the Panthers (9-4) without a field goal for a stretch of seven minutes and 28 seconds. Marquette extended the lead into double digits during that span, 37-26, and Milwaukee was unable to get closer than seven the rest of the way.
Marquette shot just 39 percent from the field but made 18-of-20 free throws while also holding the Panthers to 16-for-60 shooting (27 percent) overall and 4-for-28 (14 percent) from 3-point range.
Junior Cadougan paced a balanced Marquette lineup with 15 points, while Darius Johnson-Odom and Davante Gardner added 12 apiece.
Ryan Allen led Milwaukee — which has now lost all 39 of its games against the Golden Eagles — with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
