Sophomore sensation Derrick Williams led the way with 31 points and 10 rebounds as Arizona took down rival Arizona State, 80-69, on Saturday.
Jesse Perry added 13 points for the Wildcats (15-3, 4-1 Pac-10), who have won three straight and seven of eight.
Arizona shot 58 percent (15 of 26) in the first half, getting 13 points from Williams and 11 from Perry en route to a 43-34 edge at the break. The Sun Devils led 15-8 early before the Wildcats took control, ripping off a 21-3 burst over the next nine minutes.
Arizona State (9-8, 1-4) held off an early run by Arizona in the second half and battled back, drawing to within 61-57 when Trent Lockett converted a layup with 6:40 remaining. But the Wildcats raced ahead again, using a 9-1 burst over the next three minutes to push it to double digits.
With No. 18 Washington the lone ranked team in a down year for the Pac-10, Arizona could very easily jump up and take the conference. A showdown at Washington looms on Thursday and another tricky game at Washington State is coming up next weekend.
