Brian Qvale had a game-high 27 points and 18 rebounds as Montana got past Oregon State 71-66 Wednesday night.
Qvale and Will Cherry, who finished with 22 points, combined to shoot 17-of-26 from the field for the Grizzlies (6-4), who squandered an 11-point first-half lead and had trouble distancing themselves from the Beavers (4-5) after the break. The teams were tied at 52 midway through the second half when Cherry nailed a 3-pointer, his third of the game, to put Montana ahead for good.
Qvale finished with nine offensive rebounds, leading the Grizzlies to a 33-31 rebounding edge. Montana also enjoyed a slight edge in field-goal percentage, finishing at 46.3 percent compared to 43.6 for Oregon State.
Qvale also had a team-best five blocked shots.
Angus Brandt and Roberto Nelson each had 13 points in a reserve role for the Beavers, whose bench outscored Montana's by a 47-3 margin. Calvin Haynes and Jared Cunningham added 10 points apiece in defeat.
