Nuggets 110, Clippers 100: J.J. Hickson had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Kenneth Faried scored 18 points and grabbed a season-best 16 rebounds as host Denver halted Los Angeles’ 11-game winning streak.
Ty Lawson tallied 19 points, Timofey Mozgov contributed 15 points and nine rebounds and Randy Foye added 14 points for the Nuggets. Lawson and Foye each had four steals and Denver had 11 overall while winning for the third time in four games.
Chris Paul had 29 points and seven assists and Blake Griffin added 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Clippers, who also had their franchise-record 17-game winning streak snapped by Denver last season. This season’s 11-game winning streak matched the second-longest in franchise history and is tied for the longest in the NBA this season.
The Clippers were down five early in the fourth quarter before using a 9-2 surge to take a two-point lead but Lawson scored six straight points later in the quarter to give Denver a 102-98 edge with 3:46 remaining. Foye’s 3-pointer made it a seven-point margin with 2:35 left and Los Angeles missed its final six shots while going scoreless over the last 3 1/2 minutes.
Denver led 56-53 at halftime despite 20 first-half points by Paul and led by four late in the third quarter before the score was knotted at 83 entering the fourth. The Nuggets opened the final stanza with a 7-2 burst to take a 90-85 lead with 9:41 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Griffin stretched his streak of consecutive 20-point outings to 27. … The Nuggets collected 19 offensive rebounds while posting a 55-43 advantage on the boards. … Clippers PG Darren Collison (stomach virus) missed his second straight game and G Jamal Crawford sat out for the eighth time in nine games.
