Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer in the first inning as the host Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 6-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The victory gave the Royals (61-75) the series win as they took two of three from Chicago (79-58).
Kansas City also earned the season win against the White Sox, taking 10 of the 19 games between the teams.
Whit Merrifield got things going for the Royals in the first as Dylan Cease (11-7) walked him. Nicky Lopez then doubled, and he and Merrifield scored on the long home run by Perez that landed in one of the fountains beyond the right-field wall.
Kansas City extended its lead in the third when Lopez scored on a fielding error by first baseman Gavin Sheets.
The Royals opened things up a bit in the sixth, scoring two runs - the first off a sacrifice fly to right from Hunter Dozier and the second on a single from Merrifield.
The Royals received a strong pitching performance from Brady Singer (4-9), who threw seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits with six strikeouts.
Cease lasted five innings, giving up three earned runs and four hits with nine strikeouts.
Merrifield and Lopez led the Royals with two hits apiece.
Chicago was held to five hits through the first eight innings and did not put a runner in scoring position until there were two outs in the ninth.
With two down, Brian Goodwin drew a walk and moved to second on a single by Leury Garcia. Wade Davis then struck out Sheets to end the game.
