The Arizona Diamondbacks sustained a Major League Baseball modern-era record 23rd consecutive defeat Thursday afternoon, falling victim to Kevin Gausman's sharp pitching and Curt Casali's big offensive day in a 10-3 loss to the host San Francisco Giants.

The Diamondbacks claimed the record for themselves after they had matched the infamous feats of the 1943 Philadelphia Athletics and 1963 New York Mets on Wednesday night.

Gausman (8-1), who was coming off his lone loss of the season last Saturday at Washington, limited Arizona to two runs and four hits in eight innings. He walked one and struck out six.

Gausman has now earned wins in eight of his last 11 outings after beginning the season with three no-decisions.

The Giants did most of their offensive damage from the bottom of the order en route to handing the Diamondbacks their 14th straight loss overall. No. 6 hitter Casali fell a double shy of the cycle and had four RBIs and two runs scored.

Casali's homer, his first of the season, was a two-run shot in a three-run second inning that gave San Francisco the lead for good.

No. 7 hitter Steven Duggar added a single, double and triple and scored twice, while No. 8 Mauricio Dubon chipped in with a single, double and two RBIs.

Mike Yastrzemski had a two-run single among two hits, Brandon Belt collected two singles to complete a nine-hit series and Wilmer Flores scored twice. The Giants outscored the Diamondbacks 37-20 in the four-game sweep.

Reinstated from the injured list before the game, Zac Gallen (1-2) took the loss for the Diamondbacks. He served up four runs on four hits and a walk in 2 2/3 innings.

Arizona's only runs off Gausman came in the seventh inning on an RBI single by David Peralta.

The Diamondbacks capped the scoring in the ninth inning. Eduardo Escobar stroked his second hit, a triple, and scored on an infield out by Christian Walker.
