Astros 3, Rays 1: Jarred Cosart pitched eight scoreless innings to outduel David Price and rookie George Springer belted a long two-run homer as visiting Houston edged Tampa Bay.

Jose Altuve collected three hits and Jonathan Villar added a solo homer in the ninth inning for the Astros, who snapped their four-game losing streak. Cosart (7-5) scattered six hits while striking out two to beat the Rays for the third time in three career meetings and Chad Qualls gave up an unearned run before notching his ninth save.

Price (5-7) yielded two runs on six hits and struck out 12 over eight innings, becoming the first pitcher in the majors since Boston’s Jon Lester in 2010 to record double-digit strikeouts in four consecutive games. Brandon Guyer and Jose Molina each had a pair of hits for Tampa Bay.

Altuve singled with one out in the third inning and trotted home when Springer hammered the next pitch high off the D-ring catwalk in left field for his 13th homer. The Rays put two runners on in both the second and the third, but Cosart induced a double play to end one threat and Evan Longoria flied out to halt the other.

Cosart retired 12 straight batters until Guyer’s two-out single in the seventh, but Yunel Escobar grounded out. Villar hit his sixth homer off reliever Juan Carlos Oviedo and Escobar singled home a run in the bottom of the ninth with two outs before Qualls struck out Ryan Hanigan to end the game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Price became the second Tampa Bay pitcher to strike out 1,000 batters in his career (1,009), joining James Shields (1,250). … Altuve raised his total to 101 hits on the season and registered his 30th multi-hit performance, both of which lead the majors. … Cosart allowed only two hits over eight scoreless innings in his major-league debut at Tampa Bay last July and beat the Rays in Houston 7-3 last Saturday.
