Royals 3, White Sox 1: Billy Butler lined a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the eighth inning as host Kansas City edged Chicago to salvage the finale of their three-game series.

Norichika Aoki went 2-for-4 with an RBI and set the stage for the go-ahead sequence with a two-strike bunt single. Wade Davis (3-1) struck out two in a scoreless eighth and Greg Holland allowed two runners to reach in the ninth before inducing Alexei Ramirez to ground into a game-ending double play to record his 13th save.

Aoki dropped his bunt against Jose Quintana (2-4) with one out in the eighth and moved to third on a double by Alcides Escobar. Eric Hosmer was walked intentionally and Jake Petricka entered to give up Butler’s liner to right that plated Aoki before Danny Valencia drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning.

Chicago pushed across a run in the second inning on Paul Konerko’s run-scoring single to center field. The Royals answered in the third, when Aoki delivered an RBI single to left.

Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie allowed one run and three hits in seven innings. Quintana was charged with three runs and eight hits in 7 1/3 frames.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Davis has thrown 10 scoreless innings over his last nine games, striking out 20 while allowing just four hits. … Chicago RHP Matt Lindstrom will undergo surgery on his injured left ankle Friday and could be sidelined for three months. … Escobar joined Aoki as the only players to have two hits in the contest.
