Mariners 7, White Sox 4: Raul Ibanez homered and had four RBIs and Felix Hernandez struck out eight in 7 1/3 innings as host Seattle handed Chicago its eighth straight loss.
Nick Franklin and Kendrys Morales added RBI hits as the Mariners beat the White Sox for the second straight night after losing 26 of their previous 31 against Chicago. Tom Wilhelmsen worked the ninth for his 14th save in 17 opportunities.
Hernandez (7-4) gave up four runs and six hits before departing. Chicago starter Jake Peavy (6-4) was touched up for six runs and seven hits before leaving after 2 1/3 innings due to rib soreness.
Ibanez hit a two-run homer in Seattle’s three-run first inning and added a two-run double in the third on Peavy’s final pitch. Franklin’s run-scoring double off the top of the wall in right made it 6-2.
Adam Dunn hit a homer in the second for Chicago and Tyler Flowers’ run-scoring double in the eighth finished Hernandez’s outing. Alejandro De Aza followed with a run-scoring single before Oliver Perez induced Gordon Beckham to hit into an inning-ending double play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Peavy is slated to undergo an MRI exam Wednesday. X-rays done at the ballpark were negative. … Franklin’s double was originally ruled a homer before being reversed by the umpires after viewing the video. Chicago manager Robin Ventura argued unsuccessfully that Franklin should have been called out as White Sox RF Alex Rios got the ball in quickly and Franklin was tagged before reaching second. … Chicago’s skid is its longest since losing eight straight from Sept. 14-21, 2010.
