Tigers 10, Indians 2: Prince Fielder homered and drove in four runs and Anibal Sanchez earned his first win in a Detroit uniform as the hosts handed Cleveland its seventh straight loss.
Fielder had his best offensive showing in over a month, pounding out three of Detroit's 16 hits and scoring twice. His line-drive shot into the right-field seats off Justin Masterson (7-10) capped a four-run fourth inning by the Tigers, extending their lead to 7-1 and effectively putting the game out of reach.
That was more than enough support for Sanchez (1-1), who allowed just two runs - one earned - on eight hits over six effective innings. The hard-throwing right-hander, acquired from Miami late last month, walked two and struck out five.
Masterson was torched for seven runs on 10 hits over four innings, extending Cleveland's streak of dreadful efforts from its starting rotation.
After Alex Avila's RBI double opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, Cleveland drew even in the top of the third on a Shin-Soo Choo run-scoring single to shallow center. Fielder put the Tigers ahead for good in the bottom half, ripping a double to the center-field wall to bring home Austin Jackson and Quintin Berry.
Miguel Cabrera added three hits and Avila drove in a pair of runs as the Tigers beat Cleveland for just the third time in 10 meetings this season.
Jason Kipnis drove in the Indians' other run with an RBI groundout in the seventh.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cleveland starters have a miserable 12.40 ERA over the last seven games. The Indians have surrendered 57 runs during the skid, the most they've allowed during a losing streak that long since 1990. ... Masterson has allowed a whopping 17 runs over his last 9 2/3 innings, ballooning his ERA from 4.12 to 4.78. ... Detroit has won 12 of its last 13 home games. ... Fielder's home run was his first in 10 games against the Indians this season. He came into the game batting just .219 in the first nine head-to-head meetings.
