Nationals 5, Phillies 2: Rookie Bryce Harper's two-run triple highlighted a four-run third inning and Jordan Zimmermann tossed six solid frames as visiting Washington jumped on Roy Halladay and struggling Philadelphia.
Ian Desmond and Rick Ankiel belted solo homers for the Nationals, who have won 13 of their last 16 against their NL East rivals - including a franchise-best six straight in the City of Brotherly Love.
With runners on first and second, Harper ripped a breaking ball from Halladay (4-4) into the gap in right-center field to plate Zimmermann and Steve Lombardozzi. The triple was the third of the season for Harper, who went 2-for-5 Tuesday to improve to 4-for-9 in the series.
After Adam LaRoche's sacrifice plated Harper, Desmond followed by depositing another breaking ball from Halladay over the wall in left-center field for his eighth homer and fourth in seven games.
Staked to an early lead, Zimmermann (3-4) settled down after allowing Hector Luna's RBI double in the second inning to improve to 1-3 in his career versus the Phillies. Tom Gorzelanny worked two innings to bridge the gap to Tyler Clippard, who retired the side in the ninth for his first save of the season.
Halladay yielded five runs on nine hits in six innings to fall to 11-2 in his career versus the Washington franchise. The two-time Cy Young Award winner's last loss to the franchise came June 28, 2002 when it was based in Montreal.
Erik Kratz belted his first major-league homer for the Phillies, who have lost four in a row.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillies C Carlos Ruiz was ejected in the third inning after he took issue with home plate umpire Gary Cederstrom over balls and strikes. Ruiz turned his head and commented to Cederstrom, who promptly handed the catcher his second career ejection. ... Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins sat out his second straight game after his wife gave birth on Sunday. Mike Fontenot played second base to allow rookie Freddy Galvis to shift over to shortstop.
