Nebraska 77, No. 11 Wisconsin 68: Terran Petteway scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the host Cornhuskers clinched fourth place in the Big Ten Conference with the upset of the Badgers.
Shavon Shields scored 26 points and Walter Pitchford added 15 points for Nebraska (19-11, 11-7 Big Ten), which also took a step closer to earning its first NCAA Tournament bid since 1998. The Cornhuskers, who earned a first-round bye in this week's conference tournament by claiming the No. 4 seed, will face either Ohio State or Purdue on Friday in Indianapolis.
Frank Kaminsky scored 14 points to go along with eight rebounds and four blocks and Nigel Hayes (12), Josh Gasser (11) and Ben Brust (10) also scored in double figures for Wisconsin (25-6, 12-6). The Badgers clinched the No. 2 seed for the Big Ten tournament when Michigan State lost to Ohio State earlier on Sunday and will play the winner of Thursday's game between Minnesota and Penn State on Friday night in the quarterfinals.
The Cornhuskers, with a school-record crowd of 15,998 standing throughout the game, bolted out to a 10-3 lead in the first three minutes with Petteway and Pitchford both sinking 3-pointers. But Wisconsin, which connected on 5-of-9 3-point tries in the first half, rallied to take a 35-33 halftime lead on Kaminsky's tip-in of his own miss just a few ticks before the buzzer.
The Badgers led by as many as seven points early in the second half but Nebraska rallied to take the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Ray Gallegos that made it 53-52 with 7:50 to go. Petteway capped a 12-1 run by the Huskers with a layup to extend Nebraska's lead to 60-53, and after Wisconsin closed to within three on a Hayes dunk, the Huskers put the game out of reach with a 7-0 run.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Petteway has scored 20 or more points in 11 games this season. ... Nebraska improved its home record to a Big Ten-best 15-1. ... Nebraska G Mike Peltz proposed at the end of his Senior Night pregame speech (she said yes).
