Murray State 79, Auburn 59: Senior guard Isaiah Canaan outscored the Tigers in the first half and finished with 26 points as the Racers rolled in the first round of the Charleston (S.C.) Classic.

Canaan was 9-of-12 from the field and dished out six assists for Murray State, which will play St. John’s in the semifinals Friday. Stacy Wilson added 18 points for the Racers (2-0), who forced 20 turnovers, made 11 from 3-point range and shot 51.9 percent from the field overall.

The Racers scored 11 of the game’s first 13 points and had a 13-0 run midway through the first half. Canaan scored 20 points, making 3 of his 5 attempts from 3-point range, as the Racers built a 45-19 halftime lead.

Auburn turned the ball over 14 times in the first half and leading scorer Frankie Sullivan was only 2-of-13 from the field in the game. The Tigers (1-1) trailed by as many as 30 in the opening 20 minutes before scoring the final four points.

Rob Chubb and Asauhn Dixon-Tatum each had 12 points for Auburn, which will play Charleston in the consolation round Friday. The Tigers made their first 3-pointer with less than 4:00 left and finished 2-of-10.
