Kevin Jones and John Flowers combined for 32 points to lift host West Virginia to a 68-64 win over No. 8 Purdue on Sunday.
Jones finished with 17 points and nine rebounds while playing all 40 minutes for the Mountaineers (12-4, 3-2). Flowers, coming off a career-high 24 points Thursday against Providence, had 13 of his 15 points in the second half.
JaJuan Johnson, who had 25 points and 10 rebounds in Purdue’s 77-62 rout over WVU last New Year’s Day, delivered 26 points and seven boards but didn’t get enough help.
E’Twaun Moore added 14 points for Purdue (15-3, 4-1 Big Ten), but his 6-for-18 effort included a missed 3-pointer in the final minute for the lead. Ryne Smith also misfired on a potential go-ahead 3-pointer with under 10 seconds to play.
In a game in which neither team led by more than six, Darryl Bryant’s late jumper gave the Mountaineers a 29-28 halftime edge, despite their 13 first-half turnovers and 0 points from leading scorer Casey Mitchell.
Mitchell had a pair of three-point plays in the second half to end with six points.
