Matthew Bryan-Amaning led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds as Washington held off UCLA 74-63 on Friday.
Isaiah Thomas added 17 points and nine assists for the Huskies, who shot 50 percent from the floor.
Washington (10-3, 2-0 Pac-10) closed the first half on a 15-7 spurt to take a 38-31 edge into the break. The Huskies stretched the lead to as much as 52-35 with 14:07 to play before the Bruins (9-5, 1-1) got back into it, creeping as close as 59-55 on Reeves Nelson’s free throw with 6:18 left.
But Thomas made two free throws, stole the ball and converted a layup over the next 30 seconds to keep the Huskies clear.
Washington was ranked to begin the season but got picked off three times against ranked teams in a particularly rough non-conference slate. But with the Pac-10 going through a down year - no school is currently ranked in the Top 25 - it’s the Huskies’ conference to lose.
They play their next two at home against Oregon and Oregon State.
