Nuggets 118, Pelicans 111 (2OT): Will Barton drained a tying 3-pointer in the first overtime and finished with 25 points and nine rebounds as visiting Denver outlasted New Orleans.
Kenneth Faried added 20 points and 10 rebounds and Danilo Gallinari scored five of his 17 points in the second overtime for the Nuggets, who have won four straight. Ty Lawson collected 19 points and nine assists while Jameer Nelson posted 18 points and six assists off the bench as Denver improved to 6-2 under interim coach Melvin Hunt.
Anthony Davis flirted with a quadruple-double and finished with 36 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and a career-high tying nine blocks as the Pelicans dropped a game behind Oklahoma City in the race for the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference. Tyreke Evans had 25 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds while Eric Gordon scored 16 and Omer Asik recorded 10 points and 13 boards for New Orleans.
Nelson’s layup knotted it at 99 with 28 seconds left and Davis buried a jumper out of a timeout but Faried responded with a layup and Davis was just off at the end of regulation. The Pelicans went up 109-106 on Gordon’s floater with 14.1 seconds left in the first overtime but Barton drained a 3-pointer to force a second, and Gallinari’s free throws with 26 seconds left put it away.
The Pelicans trailed 50-47 at the break but came out of the locker room strong with a 15-2 burst to grab a 10-point lead and settled for a 77-71 gap heading into the fourth. Nelson nailed a 3-pointer to spark a 9-0 run that put the Nuggets in front 91-87 with 4:50 remaining, but Evans scored five straight points and found Gordon for a 3-pointer to put the Pelicans on top 97-95 with 1:35 to play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Denver G Randy Foye (rest) and F Wilson Chandler (rest) joined F Darrell Arthur (calf) on the bench. … The Nuggets posted a plus-17 advantage in points off turnovers. … Evans logged 43 minutes in a near triple-double despite a nagging ankle injury that forced him to sit out the last game.
