Thunder 120, Grizzlies 109: Kevin Durant had 33 points and hit all five of his 3-point attempts as host Oklahoma City defeated Memphis to win the first-round Western Conference series in seven games.
Russell Westbrook had 27 points, 16 assists and 10 rebounds as the second-seeded Thunder advance to face the Los Angeles Clippers in the next round. Reggie Jackson scored 16 points and Caron Butler added 15 for Oklahoma City, which shot 60.9 percent from the field and was 11-of-19 from 3-point range.
Marc Gasol had 24 points for seventh-seeded Memphis, which was without Zach Randolph after the standout forward was suspended for throwing a punch at Oklahoma City’s Steven Adams in Game 6. Mike Conley had 20 points and nine assists, Courtney Lee scored 16 points and Tony Allen added 15 for the Grizzlies.
Memphis carried play early with 36 first-quarter points and led by 10 three-plus minutes into the second quarter before the Thunder answered with 10 straight points. Durant’s 3-pointer just before time expired gave Oklahoma City a 61-58 lead at the break.
Durant’s fifth 3-pointer made it 78-63 with 8:14 left in the third quarter and the Thunder took a 94-81 lead into the final stanza. The Grizzlies were within 13 points after three free throws by Gasol with 6:47 to play before Oklahoma City scored the next seven points to boost the lead to 111-91 on Westbrook’s 3-pointer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Durant was 12-of-18 shooting – his best effort of the series – while reaching 30 points for the fifth time in the series. … Conley was 8-of-14 from the field and played 36 minutes after injuring a hamstring in Thursday’s Game 6. … Westbrook’s assist total is the highest of his career in a playoff game.
