Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis scored 22 points apiece as the Orlando Magic held on to defeat the host Charlotte Bobcats 91-88 on Saturday night.
Quentin Richardson added 14 points for the Magic (4-1), who notched their third consecutive victory.
Gerald Wallace led the Bobcats (1-5) with 25 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
Orlando led by six points with 1:26 left before Charlotte pulled within one point on Wallace’s fourth 3-pointer of the game and Stephen Jackson’s layup.
Richardson scored a hoop with 9.8 seconds to give Orlando a 3-point lead before Charlotte’s Boris Diaw and D.J. Agustin missed 3-pointers in the last few seconds.
Howard also grabbed eight rebounds for Orlando. Lewis was 5-of-7 from 3-point range while recording a season-best scoring total.
Chris Duhon started in place of injured point guard Jameer Nelson and contributed nine assists. Nelson injured an ankle during Friday’s win over New Jersey.
Jackson scored 16 points for Charlotte but made just 7-of-19 shots. Nazr Mohammed added 12 points.
Orlando committed just seven turnovers.
