Richard Hamilton scored 24 points and Charlie Villanueva added 23 and 11 rebounds off the bench as the host Detroit Pistons jumped out fast and ran away from the Atlanta Hawks, 103-80, on Tuesday.
Rodney Stuckey chipped in 16 points and 10 assists for the Pistons, who snapped a four-game slide and won for just the second time this month.
Hamilton and Stuckey scored six points apiece as Detroit sped to a 12-4 lead in the first four minutes. Hamilton had 15 in the quarter to help the Pistons to a 28-19 bulge.
The lead grew to 49-37 at halftime before Atlanta got back into it early in the third period as Marvin Williams’ 3-pointer cut it to 49-48. Detroit responded with a 9-2 surge to regain control.
Josh Smith’s layup at the end of the quarter pulled the Hawks within three points, but the Pistons broke out again in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hawks, 39-19, as Villanueva dropped in 16 points.
Smith scored 26 points and Al Horford collected 17 points and 12 boards for Atlanta.
