Carmelo Anthony drained a 19-foot jumper with 0.5 seconds left to give the New York Knicks a 110-108 victory over the host Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
The Grizzlies rallied from a 16-point third-quarter deficit to tie it on a three-point play by Zach Randolph, who took a pass off a pick-and-roll from Mike Conley, laid it in and picked up a foul with 14 seconds left.
After a timeout, Anthony got the ball on the left wing, took one dribble to his left and rose above Tony Allen to knock down the game-winner. The Grizzlies could not complete an alley-oop attempt on their final possession.
Anthony had 31 points and six assists and Amar’e Stoudemire contributed 26 points as the Knicks won their third straight game.
Allen scored 22 points and Darrell Arthur added 21 as the Grizzlies fell to 3-3 during a brutal stretch in which they play seven consecutive teams with winning records. Randolph and Conley added 20 apiece.
Anthony scored 20 points and Stoudemire 16 as New York forged a 61-53 halftime lead.
Three consecutive hoops by Stoudemire in less than a minute pushed the lead to 84-68 with 4:22 left in the third period. But Arthur scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter and converted a three-point play with 85 seconds to play as the Grizzlies crept within 108-105.
