Ramon Urias hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the fifth inning and the visiting Baltimore Orioles opened a three-game series between two of the top teams in the major leagues with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
Ryan O'Hearn also hit a home run for the Orioles, who are 19-18 since the All-Star break and pulled within a game of the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East.
Shohei Ohtani had two hits and a run for the Dodgers, while Miguel Rojas and Teoscar Hernandez each drove in a run. In his fifth start since joining Los Angeles at the trade deadline, right-hander Jack Flaherty (10-6) gave up three runs on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out five.
The Dodgers lost for just the second time in seven games on a nine-game homestand and are three games ahead of both the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres in the National League West.
The Orioles jumped in front 1-0 on O'Hearn's home run to right-center off Flaherty in the second. It was O'Hearn's 13th long ball of the season. The Dodgers tied it in the bottom of the inning when Tommy Edman tripled and scored on Rojas' sacrifice fly.
The Dodgers went in front 2-1 in the third inning when Ohtani singled with two outs, Mookie Betts walked and Hernandez lined an RBI single to left.
Rookie Jackson Holliday singled for the Orioles with one out in the fifth inning, and Urias followed with his home run to left for a 3-2 lead. It was Urias' 10th homer of the season and his fourth in his past 11 games.
One batter after Urias' home run, Flaherty was hit in the right wrist by a Colton Cowser comebacker. Flaherty received treatment between innings and returned for a scoreless sixth.
Baltimore starter Cole Irvin gave up two runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings, while right-hander Matt Bowman (1-0) did not give up a run in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Right-hander Seranthony Dominguez pitched the ninth inning for his seventh save of the year.
Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (finger) was given the night off, while Orioles center fielder Cedric Mullins (quad) returned after missing the previous two games.
