Tyler Freeman hit a three-run homer, Bo Naylor supplied a two-run blast and the visiting Cleveland Guardians topped the Detroit Tigers 7-5 Friday.
Brayan Rocchio added a pair of doubles while scoring a run and knocking in another. Ramon Laureano reached base four times and scored twice for Cleveland (76-84).
Cleveland starter Cal Quantrill (4-7) allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings. Emmanuel Clase gave up a run but still collected his 44th save.
Miguel Cabrera, who is retiring at the end of the season, had three hits and reached base four times for Detroit (76-84). Zach McKinstry blasted a two-run homer, Spencer Torkelson hit a solo homer and Parker Meadows contributed a two-run triple.
Detroit starter Joey Wentz (3-13) gave up seven runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Cleveland grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second. Laureano led off with a walk and stole second. Wentz retired the next two batters before Rocchio hit a liner to left that Akil Baddoo lost in the lights. It turned into an RBI double.
Naylor then drilled his 11th homer over the right field wall. The Guardians loaded the bases before Wentz retired Josh Naylor on a grounder.
Detroit responded in the bottom of the inning with McKinstry's ninth homer, which followed Matt Vierling's leadoff single.
The Guardians continued to pound Wentz in the third while increasing their lead to 7-2. Once again, it began with a Laureano walk. Andres Gimenez had an infield hit before Freeman ripped his third homer to left.
Bo Naylor's one-out double and Myles Straw's single, which right fielder Matt Carpenter booted, ended Wentz's night.
Detroit closed the gap to 7-4 in the fourth. Javier Baez had a one-out double, and Baddoo walked. With two down, Meadows smacked a triple to right to bring in both runners.
The Tigers had two baserunners in the eighth, but Reynaldo Lopez retired Meadows on a flyout to end the inning.
Torkelson began the ninth with his 31st homer, an opposite-field shot.
