Tom Murphy drew a walk with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Seattle Mariners rallied to defeat the visiting Chicago White Sox 11-10 Sunday.

Kyle Lewis hit a three-run homer for the Mariners, who took two of three games in the series. It was Lewis' fourth home run in six major-league games and pulled Seattle within 10-9 in the eighth. Mallex Smith tied it later in the eighth with a run-scoring single.

Mariners right-hander Austin Adams (2-2) got the victory and White Sox right-hander Jose Ruiz (1-3) took the loss.

Welington Castillo hit a grand slam and Adam Engel added a three-run shot, both in an eight-run fifth inning, for the White Sox.

Austin Nola led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, his fourth hit of the game. An out later, Lewis singled to right, with Nola advancing to third as the ball rolled under the glove of outfielder Ryan Cordell. Ruiz intentionally walked pinch-hitter Dee Gordon to load the bases and Murphy walked on a 3-2 count to bring home the winning run.

The Mariners blew a five-run lead before rallying from a five-run deficit.

The Mariners scored five times off White Sox starter Ivan Nova in the fourth, the key hit a two-run single by Nola.

Mariners left-hander Justus Sheffield, acquired as the centerpiece of the offseason trade that sent pitcher James Paxton to the New York Yankees, appeared destined for his first major-league victory.

Sheffield retired the first 10 batters he faced before Yoan Moncada lined a single to right with one out in the fourth.

When the Mariners scored five runs in the bottom of the inning, Sheffield was in line for the victory.

But he never made it through the fifth, recording only one out in that inning before being relieved.

Sheffield, who struck out a career-high eight, was charged with six runs (five earned) on six hits in 4 1/3 innings.

The White Sox tacked on two runs in the seventh on a single and stolen base by Moncada, a run-scoring double by Jimenez and a sacrifice fly by Castillo.
